Thorn In My Side

Thorn in my Side

Thorn In My Side is a new departure for Sheila Quigley: the start of a new series, with new characters and a new setting (not to mention a new publisher!) Meet DI Mike Yorke, and learn how he met Smiler, and what brings the two of them to Holy Island, on the northeast coast of England - and mysteries and terror they find there.

"Sometimes brutal, sometimes scary, sometimes funny. Always entertaining! Quigley delivers a storming debut to her brand new series with Thorn In My Side."

Matt Hilton, author of the Joe Hunter thrillers.

Sheila adds:

Thorn In My Side is also the start of a new adventure for me: that of co-publisher, with my son Michael. I am really excited about this, and hope it will make it easier to bring you the books you love!

Don't worry about the Seahills, Lorraine and Co. aren't going away. I'm working on a new one Stand By Me, which will be out early next year, and already thinking about the next Mike Yorke book, Nowhere Man, also out next year.

Thank you to all my fans for their support, and I hope it continues! I hope you like the new set of characters: from what I've been told about them, I have a sneaky feeling that you will.

Best wishes to all
Sheila Quigley.

What's Sheila reading?

At a lot of library events one of the most asked questions is: what do you read? Mostly I read horror or fantasy, with the odd crime novel that takes my fancy - these must be fast paced with not a lot of procedural work thrown in.

The other day I called to pick my twelve year old granddaughter Shanine up, to take her and her six year old cousin Leah up to Holy Island where the new book, Thorn In My Side, is set. While waiting for her, I picked up her latest book, Wizards' Kingdom, by Colin R Parsons and could not put it down. She also raved about it, and was eager to get her hands on the next one. I was so pleased that she had finished it so I could take it home. A great read.

Welcome to the Seahills Estate...

"You have to have hope, else there's no point in going on, is there?"

"Hope." Kerry spread her arms wide. "Around here? Yer fucking kidding, aren't yer?"

"Now it's not that bad."

"News flash, Sandra... it is that bad."

"No, Kerry pet. This is home. It's my home, it's your home. It's where we belong." She spread her own arms wide in imitation of Kerry. "Where else can yer get a cuppa free when yer need it, an ear when yer need it? These people won't walk past yer in the gutter, they'll pick yer up."

"Aye, maybes, but they'll pick yer pocket while they do it."

"No they won't. No one ever gets mugged or burgled on the Seahills."

Kerry folded her arms across her chest. "Have you flipped yer lid? Nobody's burgled around here, Sandra, cos this is where the burglars live. And the muggers, and the car thieves. There's one just gone in my house."

"Cal! He's a nice lad."
