THE SEAHILLS ESTATE

Welcome to the Seahills Estate, the fictitious estate in Houghton-le-Spring in North East England which provides the setting for Sheila Quigley's action-packed thrillers: Run for Home, Bad Moon Rising, Living on a Prayer, Every Breath You Take and and The Road to Hell.

Calling all fans of the Seahills books!

Do you have a KILLER question that you want to ask the 'Queen of Crime', Sheila Quigley?

Ten questions from the fans will be put to Sheila as part of the Homicide in Houghton 5 tour, which will be visiting the fictional murder scenes from Sheila's books as part of the Houghton Feast 2010 celebrations in October.

So if you have something you are DYING to ask Sheila, please email Paul Lanagan on: .

The best 10 questions will be incorporated into the Homicide in Houghton tour. Sheila will be kept in the DARK and will not be told of the questions beforehand!

The tour takes place on Saturday October 16th, at 2.00 pm. Places are strictly limited, so please book your FREE place via Houghton Library by telephoning: 0191 561 6383.

And keep watching this space for information about other events, at which you can come along and say 'hello' to Sheila - sometimes solo, and sometimes teamed up with crime-writing friends Matt Hilton and Ken McCoy, otherwise known as Murder INK.

We regret that the event at The Guisborough Bookshop planned for Wednesday 1st September has been cancelled.

A message from Sheila

A message from Sheila (pictured, right, at the launch party for her latest book, The Road to Hell, which is now available in paperback) -

The Road to Hell has been selling brilliantly in the book shops and on line sites. the first printing nearly sold out in a few weeks. I am thrilled with the book my new publisher (Tonto Books) have produced, and they've created two fantastic covers, one for the hardback and another for the new paperback. See them both on the Road to Hell page of this web site.

Some more great news: I am now a columnist for the Sunderland Echo, and really excited about it. My column was launched on New years Eve and will be out every other Thursday: topical everyday things and book reviews - and now you can read it online, too!

Thorn In My Side is at the final stages and will be out in September.

Thanks for all your great comments on my books.

What's Sheila reading?

At a lot of library events one of the most asked questions is: what do you read? Mostly I read horror or fantasy, with the odd crime novel that takes my fancy - these must be fast paced with not a lot of procedural work thrown in.

The other day I called to pick my twelve year old granddaughter Shanine up, to take her and her six year old cousin Leah up to Holy Island where the new book, Thorn In My Side, is set. While waiting for her, I picked up her latest book, Wizards' Kingdom, by Colin R Parsons and could not put it down. She also raved about it, and was eager to get her hands on the next one. I was so pleased that she had finished it so I could take it home. A great read.

Welcome to the Seahills Estate...

"You have to have hope, else there's no point in going on, is there?"

"Hope." Kerry spread her arms wide. "Around here? Yer fucking kidding, aren't yer?"

"Now it's not that bad."

"News flash, Sandra... it is that bad."

"No, Kerry pet. This is home. It's my home, it's your home. It's where we belong." She spread her own arms wide in imitation of Kerry. "Where else can yer get a cuppa free when yer need it, an ear when yer need it? These people won't walk past yer in the gutter, they'll pick yer up."

"Aye, maybes, but they'll pick yer pocket while they do it."

"No they won't. No one ever gets mugged or burgled on the Seahills."

Kerry folded her arms across her chest. "Have you flipped yer lid? Nobody's burgled around here, Sandra, cos this is where the burglars live. And the muggers, and the car thieves. There's one just gone in my house."

"Cal! He's a nice lad."
